Mulberry Lane is a residential street east of Boston Road (Route 3A), north of Billerica Centre. It leaves Boston Road and runs north and east about 1,200 feet, crossing Skyline Drive, to a turnaround. It was laid out on the "Definitive Plan, Skyline Drive Development, Billerica, Mass.," owned by Roger Toothaker and drawn in August 1964 by Atlantic Engineering Associates, civil engineers and land surveyors, of Nashua, New Hampshire. The Planning Board approved it on December 24, 1964, with Edgar A. Williams signing as clerk, and it was recorded on December 28, 1964 (Plan Book 101, Plan 47). The plan shows Mulberry Lane, 50 feet wide, from Boston Road to a circle of 60-foot radius, with Skyline Drive leaving it to the west to join the older part of that street on Toothaker land. Its nineteen lots, mostly of 25,000 square feet, lay between land of Barber, Burbank, Doherty and the Billerica Congregational Church on one side and Brown, Rogers and Richardson on the other.
The assessors date the oldest house on the street to about 1965 and most of the others to 1967 to 1969. The origin of the name Mulberry was not found. No vote accepting Mulberry Lane as a public way has been found. A petition article at the spring town meeting of 1991 asked for $1,000,000 to sewer "Mulberry Lane, Skyline Drive, Abby Lane and Applebee Way," and a motion to spend $300,000 on the work lost unanimously; the sewers were laid under the town's Contract 28B, completed in 1997, which the 1999 report lists as the "Skyline Drive neighborhood: Skyline Dr, Mulberry Lane, Abbey Lane."
